Statistical Analyses in Medicine VARIANT 2 Two groups of the students were tested by the bicycle ergometer. A student of the first group has high physical state of the body and students of the second group have low physical state of the body. Check hypotheses: difference in heart rate after high physical activity depending on level of the physical state of the body or not. № Students with high physical state of the body – heart rate AFTER high physical activity Students with low physical state of the body – heart rate AFTER high physical activity 1 120 165 2 124 166 3 128 180 4 126 182 5 124 184 6 118 168 7 106 190 8 116 185 9 140 160 10 136 168 11 138 170 12 132 172 Steeps for the task processing: Task 1. Mathematical and statistical calculation using MS Excel 1. For each sample in the previous table you must calculate set of descriptive statistical parameters. For easy calculating you can use Formula Wizard. Statistical parameter name Mathematic equation Excel function name English ver. Russian ver. Save Excel document in the folder D:Users your_LastName, file name: descript_stat1 Task 2. The Microsoft Excel Analysis ToolPak Descriptive Statistics tool usage Repeat the calculation of the descriptive statistical parameters with the Microsoft Excel Analysis ToolPak Descriptive Statistics tool usage. The descriptive statistic must be calculated for each sample in the table from the task 1. For this you must perform the following steps: 1. Open document that was created in the Task 1 (if you close it). 2. Open the Analysis ToolPak by selecting Tools Data Analysis from the main menu bar. 3. Select Descriptive Statistics from the list of available tools and press OK to open the Descriptive Statistics dialog box. 4. In the Input Range field, type (or select directly from your spreadsheet) the cell range containing the data you want to analyze. 5. Check all of the options shown in the lower part of the Descriptive Statistics dialog box in order to generate all the available statistics. 6. Output options set to the cell address with empty area at right side of it and bellow. Press OK to generates the results. Compare these results with values that you were receiving in the Task 1. Note! Save Excel document in the folder D:Users your_LastName, file name: descript_stat2 Task 3. General Statistical Hypothesis testing 1. Formulate a task by the mathematical statistics point of view (define which one statistical hypothesis it is need checking). 2. Define the type of the variables distribution. 3. Choose method of the statistical hypothesis check in according of the variables distribution type. 4. Check up the additional conditions for the statistical hypothesis check method (if need).5. Calculate appropriate statistical test and check result by comparing with the critical value. 6. Make a scientifically grounded conclusion on task. Note! Save Excel document in the folder D:Users your_LastName, file name: hypotese_test Note! Also you must upload all your files into the Moodle web-site system if properly assignment exist.

MEDICAL AND HEALTH RECORDS 1 Pen and Paper Exercises Exercise 1: Normalising tables Scenario One It has been decided to add additional departmental information to the Employees table, in addition to the Dept_Name field (see screen capture below and/or tbl_Employees_Departments): Tasks 1. Why is this not good database design? 2. Imagine you are going to redesign the database and create an additional table to store department information: · list the fields you would include in the new table · identify a suitable primary key field · decide how you would create a relationship between the two tables. Helpful hint: think about which table is on the ‘One’ side and which is on the ‘Many’ side. Will you use the Primary Key from tbl_Employees in the Departments table or vice versa? tbl_Employees showing Departmental information: Scenario Two Rather than just listing each employee’s salary, historical salary information will be kept for each employee, listing the date their salary changed and their new salary (see screen capture overleaf and/or tbl_Employees_Salaries). Tasks 1. Why is this not good database design? 2. Imagine you are going to redesign the database and create an additional table to store salary information: · list the fields you would include in the new table · decide how you would create a relationship between the two tables. (Which table is on the ‘One’ side and which is on the ‘Many’ side?) · create a Primary Key for the new table Helpful hint: you can create a composite Primary Key from more than one field if the combination of values in those fields will be unique for any given record.
